A Very Memorable Day

It was a beautiful, sunny spring day: the flowers I planted just a few short weeks ago had bloomed into awesome, amazing beauties.. Purple irises, pink carnations, red and yellow roses surrounded by whispers of white buds of baby's breath ( the aroma from the mixture of these flowers were incredibly sweet). Birds of all kinds and colors were singing happily, and I could feel a whisper of spring breeze softly touching my golden hair as it quietly passed by.. A fantastic day it was.
It was also an important day for me: I was asked to give a speech at Jacksonville University, one of Florida's most popular colleges. I was so nervous I swear I could feel butterflies in my stomach. As I prepared myself for my day, I kept asking my self, " Why was I chosen to speak about the life of Edgar Allen Poe? He was a great writer, a famous poet. But, I am not famous; I am only beginning."
I looked at the kitchen clock and realized I was running late. Dropping my bus fare 3 times, I made it to the bus before it left me. I was finally on my way to the college, but I was so nervous I couldn't stop shaking. When I arrived at Jacksonville University, I discovered why I was chosen to speak about this man who died so many years ago..
My speech professor, Mr. Hale, was told the dean of Speech needed someone to speak to the entire speech and writing classes about this famous poet, Edgar Allen Poe.. Mr. Hale remembered a paper I wrote in his class about the life and death of Edgar Allen Poe; Mr Hale told the Dean of speech that I was perfect for this event.
Still shaking with fear, I gathered my notes and began the long walk to the assembly. When I walked inside the doors of the assembly, I saw at least 200 students waiting to hear my words. For a moment I froze in fear, but then suddenly, without looking at my notes, I began to talk to all about Edgar Allen Poe; a man I respected even in his death..I enjoyed this day and I will always remember it.
Even when we think we can't do something, if one tries one will discover that we can do anything we put our minds to..
